So many people are wondering, is witchcraft real? I thought I would write a post to help you decide for yourself if you feel it’s real or not. Realistically the belief in witchcraft comes from within yourself. There is no physical proof that it exists or works. First I want to talk a little bit about what witchcraft actually is. Then I want to go into how you can decide if it’s something worth believing in or not, so let’s get into it!

What is Witchcraft?

Merriam-Webster defines witchcraft as this. Which I would mostly agree with. One thing I would add is that in section 1. B. it states “communication with the devil or familiar” and while it can be that. I would probably say communication with the deceased as well. I say this speaking from a Medium’s perspective. However if you follow a darker path, it’s not unheard of to want to make contact with Lucifer and include him in certain rituals. Also, number 2 in this dictionary, I find is neither here nor there.

My personal definition of witchcraft is the art of casting spells, working with the deceased and the spirit world, using divination as a tool to guide, and performing rituals. While I do use Gods/Goddessess/Dieties and other forms or spirit contact in my spell workings, rituals and the occasional form of divination. I don’t follow any form of religion. Instead I follow my own path and what feels right for me. While I have nothing against religion. This is a choice that works best for me and allows me to practice my craft in a way that makes sense for me.

Now that we have defined what witchcraft is, we can go on and tackle the question. Is witchcraft real? Because nothing in the realm of magic, divination and spirituality is ever really black and white. I can’t give you a hard yes or hard no answer. There are different aspects to consider. So when someone asks, “is witchcraft real?” there are different perspectives in how this question can be answered. This is why I want to break everything down.

Sorcery and Magic

Most people that ask this question, what they really want to know, is if magic is real. Again, no simple answer. The best way I can think of to answer this question would be this. Do you believe in religion? When I ask this question I mean do you or are you open to believing in a God, or some sort of being who’s existence has no physical proof? If you said yes, then magic and sorcery can be real as well, because it’s power comes from your belief. Which as I stated above, comes from within yourself.

Another aspect to the question, is witchcraft real? Has to do with people really wanting to know if rituals and spells actually work. I have to state again, there is no straight forward answer. This depends on so many factors, so I am going to answer this question with my own personal experiences, and I’m going to say yes, they do. However there are many reasons, and many factors that go into why a spell hasn’t worked. More often then not your spell has worked, and I talk about that in this post Do Spells Really Work?

So, check it out if you haven’t already done so!

A lot of the time when someone asks if witchcraft is real, they might really be asking if witchcraft is real as a religion. For this one I can say yes. Witchcraft is practiced in Wiccan and Pagan religions, as well as the “darker” religions such Luciferian and Satanism, and probably many others, I don’t really know too much about what religions practice what, so I am not going to go into a whole lot about that.

Tarot and Divination

Finally we’ll get into this aspect, because I find that some people call reading tarot or using other forms of divination “witchcraft”. So when they want to know if witchcraft is real, what they really want to know is if tarot readings or other forms of divination can predict the future. Or tell them things that no one else knows. I can personally say yes, it can. However, that doesn’t mean it always will.

If you come to me for a reading and I have a prediction, it doesn’t mean it’s set in stone, you have free will and you can change that. So if you don’t like what you hear, you have the power to change yourself and your future. Either purposely or accidentally. When it comes to things no one else knows, again, yes, it can. Again, I must say it’s not always the case.

The way my readings work, is based on whatever it is you need to know at the moment. Spirit will present me with the information that he feels is important and you should be aware of at this moment in time. So sometimes a prediction is not going to happen, and sometimes me telling you something no one else knows is not something that is going to be helpful for you at this time. So it won’t be something I am shown.

That being said, I hope this post was able to clarify some things for you, and that you are now able to answer the question -Is Witchcraft Real- for yourself.

Until next time folks!
